Bale Pulper Operator

Job Summary

The Bale Pulper Operator is responsible for safely transporting and pulping bales, broke, and other paper materials in a timely manner, ensuring smooth and efficient operations in the pulper area. This role requires adherence to safety protocols, proper equipment handling, and effective communication with team members to maintain a safe and productive work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport bales and broke to the pulper area, ensuring proper handling and equipment use.
  • Follow Crew Leader's direction to set up bales for pulp chest dumps.
  • Cut wires off all pulp and broke bales while wearing appropriate PPE.
  • Load broke pulpers when indicated by offline pulper; cut broke as needed.
  • Conduct pre-use inspections of forklift equipment and complete daily inspection sheets.
  • Submit completed paperwork, including Bale Pulper Logs and Forklift Inspection Sheets, to the Crew Leader at the end of each shift.
  • Properly dispose of waste and maintain cleanliness in work areas, including the bale pulper, conveyor areas, pulper alleyway, and warehouse.
  • Ensure bales are safely stacked and transported, with no more than three bales high, using a bale clamp.
  • Assist in cleaning areas from DAF chemical pumps, refiners, pulp chests, and bale conveyors before shift change.
  • Participate in daily safety meetings and contribute ideas for improving safety standards.
  • Prepare and stage Softwood (SW), Hardwood (HW), and Broke bales prior to shift change.
  • Assist in the closure of pulp chest valves during machine shutdowns as directed by the Crew Leader or Assistant Crew Leader.
  • Assist in shipping and receiving by using pulp bales from trailers during night and weekend deliveries.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and conduct yourself in accordance with the company’s employee handbook.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management or administrative staff in a safe and efficient manner.

Success Criteria

  • Adheres to safety protocols and immediately reports any safety violations or hazards.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of different types of pulp used in production.
  • Proficient in forklift and bale clamp operation.
  • Efficiently creates SW, HW, and Broke batches.
  • Capable of creating pulpers on both paper machines.
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area throughout the shift.
  • Demonstrates a willingness to learn other job functions and grasp paper-making concepts.
  • Effectively communicates with coworkers, administration, and management to support smooth machine operations.
  • Trains new team members in job functions to contribute to overall company success.
  • Completes and submits necessary paperwork in a timely manner.

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
