Overview
We are seeking a Senior Sales Engineer with a strong Tier 3+ technical background and a proven track record of supporting complex sales engagements. This role is ideal for a seasoned infrastructure generalist who can translate technical solutions into business value and serve as a trusted advisor to prospects and customers.
You will work closely with sales, engineering, and leadership teams to design, position, and present solutions across infrastructure, networking, cloud, security, and backup/disaster recovery.
Responsibilities
- Partner with sales teams to support pre-sales and post-sales technical engagements
- Design and present technical solutions tailored to customer requirements
- Lead technical discovery sessions and infrastructure assessments
- Serve as the primary technical authority during sales cycles
- Architect solutions across:
- On-prem and hybrid infrastructure
- Networking and security
- Backup and disaster recovery
- Cloud platforms and services
- Deliver technical presentations, demos, and solution overviews to both technical and executive audiences
- Respond to RFPs, RFIs, and technical questionnaires
- Act as a trusted advisor by clearly articulating risks, tradeoffs, and best practices
- Support proof-of-concept efforts and solution validation
- Collaborate with delivery and engineering teams to ensure smooth handoffs
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or related roles
- Demonstrated Tier 3+ technical expertise across multiple disciplines
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Infrastructure and virtualization platforms
- Networking fundamentals and advanced concepts
- Backup and disaster recovery strategies
- Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, and/or M365)
- Security principles and solutions
- Proven track record supporting or driving successful sales engagements
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts in clear, business-focused terms
- Strong presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Local to the Chicagoland area with the ability to meet customers in person
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a Sales Engineer, Solutions Architect, or Pre-Sales role
- Experience in MSP, VAR, or consulting environments
- Relevant certifications (Microsoft, AWS, Cisco, VMware, security-focused certs)

Pay: $42.00 - $45.00 per hour
