We are seeking a highly experienced Senior WordPress Developer to lead the development and evolution of WordPress-based learning and community platforms. This role is focused on architecting, building, and optimizing Learning Management Systems (LMS) and community-driven experiences using tools such as LearnDash and BuddyBoss (or comparable community plugins).

The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in WordPress, demonstrates strong ownership of platform architecture and performance, and collaborates effectively across design, content, and product teams. This role blends back-end engineering, front-end customization, and advanced plugin integration, with an emphasis on scalability, security, and long-term maintainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of WordPress-based LMS platforms using LearnDash and related learning tools.
  • Architect and optimize community and social features using BuddyBoss or comparable plugins (BuddyPress, PeepSo, Youzify).
  • Build and maintain custom WordPress themes and plugins, following best practices for performance, security, and extensibility.
  • Serve as a technical lead, providing guidance on WordPress architecture, plugin selection, and implementation strategies.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with designers, content strategists, and developers to deliver engaging, responsive, and accessible user experiences.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to performance bottlenecks, plugin conflicts, scalability, and cross-browser compatibility.
  • Implement and maintain API integrations with third-party platforms and services.
  • Manage staging and production environments, including deployments, backups, and release coordination.
  • Ensure WordPress core, themes, and plugins are secure, up to date, and stable.
  • Write clean, secure, and well-documented code, and contribute to internal development standards and best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional WordPress development experience, with senior-level responsibility.
  • Advanced proficiency in PHP, HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and MySQL.
  • Demonstrated experience building and supporting LMS platforms (e.g., LearnDash, LifterLMS, Tutor LMS).
  • Hands-on experience with at least one community platform plugin: BuddyBoss, BuddyPress, PeepSo, or Youzify.
  • Strong background in custom theme and plugin development.
  • Deep understanding of WordPress hooks, filters, and REST API.
  • Proven experience with performance optimization, responsive design, and scalable WordPress architectures.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience integrating WooCommerce and related eCommerce workflows.
  • Familiarity with membership systems, gamification tools, and user engagement features.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (Git).
  • Strong knowledge of WordPress security best practices.
  • Working understanding of UX/UI principles and accessibility standards (WCAG).
  • Experience with SEO, site performance optimization, and analytics.
  • Familiarity with page builders such as Elementor, Beaver Builder, or WPBakery.
