Job description

Essential Job Functions:

An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

1. Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and supports the hardware and software associated with the Township's personal computer and network infrastructure including software applications, networked computers, cabling, modems, printers, and associated peripherals.

2. Administers the Township’s local and wide area network. Configures and optimizes network performance, monitors resources, and maintains network security. Diagnoses and makes simple repairs, performs system backups, administers user accounts, adds new systems to the network, and recommends conversions, updates and expansions.

3. Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and supports the Township’s telecommunication and audio visual equipment including phones, phone lines, and other associated equipment.

4. Assists in researching new technologies, analyzing operational needs, and presenting recommendations, training sessions, and reports on computer technology to staff and management.

5. Responds to inquiries and investigates complaints regarding services, programs, and equipment. Provides advanced technical expertise and troubleshooting as well as providing end-user assistance and training.

6. Maintains inventory of information systems equipment, licenses, parts, and remote access. Keeps logs and other records related to warranties, repair and service activities, licensing information, and related documentation.

7. Tracks and documents all support requests from end-users and produces a report of such activities. Trains end-users in various software and database products and prepares instruction manuals and other documentation as needed.

8. Participates in process modifications, hardware and software upgrades, and the expansion of the network infrastructure, integrating existing systems with other Township work locations and facilities.

9. Ensures security standards are up to date, including the security of the Township’s website, databases, cloud-based storage, electronic access cards, and systems user access. Participates in the development and implementation of disaster recovery systems.

10. Interacts with vendors and service providers regarding delivery or installation of technology services, equipment, upgrades, and maintenance. Evaluates and tests hardware and software to determine usefulness and compatibility with existing systems.

11. Works with Township departments to develop and implement department-specific software, programs, and data.

12. Provides back-up support to other departmental activities.

13. Keeps informed of developments in the field through professional development and continuing education. Reviews professional materials and attends seminars and training programs as appropriate.

14. Performs other related work as required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, abilities and minimum qualifications necessary to perform the essential functions of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the job.

· Associate’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field. A Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent training, is preferred.

· Three or more years of supervisory experience.

· Three or more years of experience performing network administration and computer hardware and software support.

· Computer hardware and/or network certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, VMware Certified Professional, Veeam Certified Engineer, Fortinet Certified Associate, or A++ Certification are preferred.

· Experience with ESRI ArcGIS, DropSuite, and BS&A preferred.

· Valid Operator’s License, a satisfactory driving record, and the ability to maintain one throughout employment.

· Thorough knowledge of the professional practices and procedures associated with the installation, troubleshooting, and repair of the Township’s computers, networks, operating systems, security measures, and peripheral equipment.

· Knowledge of programming languages and ability to create and manipulate end-user interfaces.

· Knowledge of municipal operations as they relate to the usage and capabilities of a computer network system.

· Knowledge of database development and maintenance.

· Skill in interpreting and applying complex operating systems and interactive programs to municipal operations and services.

· Skill in diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining computer hardware, software, and related systems.

· Skill in training users and troubleshooting a variety of issues.

· Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare comprehensive reports.

· Ability to exercise a high degree of diplomacy and work effectively under stress and in emergency and confrontational situations.

· Ability to communicate effectively and present ideas and concepts orally and in writing.

· Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with employees, Township officials, professional contacts, community leaders, and the public.

· Ability to critically assess situations, problem-solve, and work well under stress, within deadlines and changes in work priorities.

· Attends management and Board of Trustees meetings when required.

· Ability to travel to other Scio Township locations.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
