Job description

The Pennsylvania Property and Casualty Insurance Guaranty Association (PPCIGA) is a state-mandated nonprofit organization created to protect Pennsylvania policyholders if a licensed property or casualty insurance company becomes insolvent. Our mission is to ensure that covered claims are paid and that consumers are shielded from financial hardship when their insurers can no longer meet their obligations. Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and troubleshoot Microsoft Access front-end applications connected to SQL Server back-end
  • Perform routine database maintenance, backups, restores, and data integrity checks
  • Develop, modify, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and reports
  • Ensure system performance, availability, and security across the claims database environment
  • Work closely with claims processing staff to understand workflows, data requirements, and reporting needs
  • Document database schema, application dependencies, and support procedures
  • Collaborate with IT leadership on modernizing or migrating legacy systems
  • Write, review, and optimize T-SQL queries, stored procedures, and database objects used in claims processing and reporting

Perform daily monitoring of database performance, backups, and scheduled jobs to ensure system integrity and availability

Manage SUDS FTP (System for Uploading Data Securely) process for securely transmitting insurance claim-related files to external parties (e.g., NAIC, state regulators)

Monitor SUDS FTP logs and troubleshoot failed transmissions or permission issues in coordination with external stakeholders

Develop, test, and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate repetitive data tasks, file transfers, system monitoring, and reporting

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft Access development and maintenance
  • 5+ years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server (T-SQL, stored procedures, indexing)
  • Experience supporting insurance claims processing systems (P&C, health, workers' comp, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of relational database design and troubleshooting
  • Proficient in building user forms, reports, and automation in Access VBA
  • Ability to reverse-engineer undocumented legacy databases
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with claim-related data models (e.g., policy, claimant, loss, reserve, payment tables)
  • Knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements (NAIC, HIPAA, etc.)
  • Experience with Access-to-SQL migration or modernization projects
  • Familiarity with Power BI or other reporting tools

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
