Junior DevOps Engineer

We’re looking for a Junior DevOps Engineer with a strong foundation in Linux, networking (Juniper/Arista/Cisco), and server hardware (HPE) to support a high-uptime, production environment. You’ll help build, operate, and support core infrastructure, handle hardware lifecycle and RMAs, and grow into areas like Kubernetes and automation.
What You’ll Do
- Linux Systems Administration: Install, configure, harden, and troubleshoot Linux servers; manage users, services, and packages; assist with patching and baseline config.
- Networking Support: Assist with configuration and troubleshooting of Juniper, Arista, and Cisco switches/routers (VLANs, trunks, link aggregation, port security, routing basics).
- Server Hardware (HPE): Rack/stack, cable, test, and maintain HPE servers; monitor component health; coordinate and process RMAs; document serials and spares.
- Operations & Incident Response: Triage alerts, resolve L1/L2 incidents, escalate when needed, and participate in on-call rotation as skills grow.
- Documentation: Create and maintain runbooks, network/hardware diagrams, inventory, and SOPs.
- Collaboration: Partner with senior engineers on projects and continuous improvement initiatives.
- (Optional/Growth) Kubernetes: Assist with cluster basics, node health checks, and troubleshooting under guidance.
- (Optional/Growth) Automation: Contribute to simple scripts/playbooks (e.g., Bash, Python, Ansible) to reduce toil.
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong Linux experience (admin fundamentals, CLI, services, systemd, networking tools).
- Strong Python experience
- Strong networking fundamentals with hands-on exposure to Juniper/Arista/Cisco (Layer 2/3 basics, VLANs, STP, BGP/OSPF fundamentals preferred).
- Server hardware experience with HPE (install, diagnostics, component replacement, RMAs).
- Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools (e.g., SNMP, syslog, Prometheus/ELK or similar).
- Comfortable working in a ticketed environment and following change management practices.
- Clear, concise communication and strong documentation habits.
Preferred/Bonus
- Certifications: CCNA and/or JNCIA (or in-progress).
- Exposure to Kubernetes (kubectl basics, nodes/pods/services) and container concepts.
- Exposure to automation (Bash/Python scripting, Ansible or similar).
- Experience in a data center or high-availability environment.
- Understanding of security best practices (least privilege, SSH key mgmt, patching cadence).
Pay: Up to $29.00 per hour
