Lead Sustainability Engineer

RMF Engineering, Inc

Full-time

Boston, MA

Job description

About the Role
As an Electrical Engineer, you’ll design and implement the electrical and control systems that power M2X’s modular gas-to-liquid conversion plants. From controller programming to high- and low-voltage panel design, you’ll ensure our systems run safely, efficiently, and reliably. This is a hands-on, high-impact role where you’ll collaborate with engineers, fabricators, and suppliers to bring cutting-edge equipment to life. If you’re passionate about power conversion & controls, thrive on solving complex challenges, and want your work to global impact, this role is for you.

Responsibilities

  • Design & Develop: Architect control system strategies and PLC programs to enable remote monitoring and system control.
  • Build & Integrate: Develop electrical systems, including motors, converters (AC-DC, DC-AC, DC-DC), drives, sensors, enclosures, and wiring.
  • Test & Troubleshoot: Modify PLC programs, debug issues with sensors and network devices, and resolve integration challenges.
  • Collaborate & Document: Partner with panel shops, technicians, and engineers to improve designs, create documentation, and streamline FAT processes.
  • Analyze & Improve: Collect and interpret system data to implement predictive maintenance and reduce lifecycle costs.
  • Optimize Operations: Propose design changes that shorten assembly/FAT time and drive CapEx/OpEx reductions.

Experience

  • A foundation in Electrical, Mechanical, or related Engineering disciplines (B.S. degree) and 3+ years of professional experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across PLCs, analog/digital sensors, motors, VFDs, I/O racks, and networked devices.
  • Solid understanding of electric circuit design, power electronics, and control system fundamentals.
  • Practical, hands-on experience with wiring, installation, and electrical hardware troubleshooting. Proven experience in electrical system design, power distribution, and controls engineering.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and Ignition SCADA platforms.
  • Familiarity with NEC, UL, IEC, and other electrical codes.
  • Hands-on background in instrumentation, calibration, CAN communication, or harness design.
  • Experience in mechatronic systems, motor drives, and power electronics.
  • Data acquisition and analysis skills to support predictive maintenance and system optimization.
  • A track record of leading cross-functional projects and delivering innovative controls solutions.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and apply them to novel engineering challenges.
  • Experience with project scheduling tools and project management methodologies.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems as they relate to electrical infrastructure is a plus.
  • Prior experience with construction oversight or field installation is desirable but not mandatory. This position offers the chance to work on impactful projects within a professional environment that values innovation, safety, and technical excellence.
