DevOps Engineer (Cloud Operations & Security Monitoring)

Location: Remote within Wisconsin only
Duration: Through 6/30/2026 (possible extension)
Work Type: 100% Remote (must reside in WI)
Max Rate: $48-53/hr

Position Overview

The DevOps Engineer supports the reliability, performance, and security visibility of cloud environments, with primary focus on AWS. This role manages cloud operations, security monitoring, incident response, and automation to ensure a resilient, well-governed, and cost-efficient cloud ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Operations

  • Administer and support AWS infrastructure (compute, storage, networking, IAM).
  • Monitor cloud workload health, availability, and performance.
  • Manage deployments, configuration changes, and environment provisioning using infrastructure?as?code and automation.
  • Troubleshoot service disruptions, performance issues, and integration failures.
  • Optimize cloud resources for cost, performance, and lifecycle management.
  • Maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery readiness.

Security Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Monitor cloud security telemetry, logs, and alerts using cloud monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.
  • Investigate security events and support incident response.
  • Tune detection rules, thresholds, and monitoring dashboards.
  • Support vulnerability management, patching, and remediation activities.
  • Assist with audits, compliance documentation, and control validation.
  • Collaborate with security teams to strengthen cloud security posture.

Automation, Observability & Continuous Improvement

  • Implement automated monitoring, alerting, and remediation workflows.
  • Build and maintain operational dashboards and system?health reporting.
  • Contribute to runbooks, SOPs, and incident response documentation.
  • Recommend long?term corrective actions for recurring issues.
  • Participate in on?call rotation and post?incident reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 5–7+ years operating and supporting workloads in AWS.
  • Hands?on experience with cloud monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.
  • Strong understanding of networking, IAM, and system administration.
  • Experience investigating incidents, troubleshooting outages, and responding to security alerts.
  • Familiarity with scripting/automation tools (PowerShell, Python, Bash).
  • Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud security services, SIEM, or threat?detection platforms.
  • Knowledge of infrastructure?as?code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Experience with vulnerability scanning and remediation workflows.
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks (NIST, CIS, etc.).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Solutions Architect, AWS Security Specialty, Security+).
  • Experience hardening cloud services to organizational standards.
