Job description
UW Credit Union is hiring a Manager of People Technology to lead the strategy, implementation, and ongoing evolution of our People systems. In this influential role, you’ll provide leadership to a talented team responsible for ensuring the tools and systems supporting the employee lifecycle are intuitive, scalable, and aligned with UWCU’s people-first culture. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the digital employee experience and advance the way our People Tech Team delivers value across the organization.
A day in the life of the Manager of People Technology might include coaching a team member through a technical system enhancement, collaborating with stakeholders on a roadmap for a new performance management platform, analyzing vendor demo feedback, or translating organizational needs into system configurations that streamline workflows and improve data visibility. You’ll balance strategic vision with hands-on problem solving, operating as both a people leader and a functional expert. If you're energized by building cross-functional partnerships, guiding systems change, and leading a team through complexity, this role is for you.
This is a hybrid position based in Madison, WI.
As the Manager of People Technology, you will:
- Lead, coach, and develop a collaborative HRIS team, fostering a culture of growth, ownership, and solution-oriented thinking.
- Oversee UW Credit Union’s People Technology ecosystem, including systems supporting HR, Talent, Learning & Development, Total Rewards, and People Experience—ensuring alignment with strategic and operational goals.
- Serve as the primary business owner of core People systems (currently UKG for timekeeping, payroll, and benefits), ensuring system integrity, continuous improvement, and long-term scalability.
- Drive system implementation and optimization efforts, from planning and configuration through launch, training, change management, and ongoing support—particularly as we transition to new Learning, Performance, and Compensation platforms.
- Establish and lead strong partnerships across the People Tech Team, Technology Solutions, and vendors to gather requirements, prioritize enhancements, and drive projects forward with clarity and accountability.
- Manage vendor relationships and system contracts, including participating in RFP processes, evaluating vendors, and facilitating demos and stakeholder feedback.
- Ensure data quality and governance, overseeing data audits, system security, and access controls while supporting compliance with legal, regulatory, and organizational policies.
- Advance data reporting and analytics capabilities, enabling leaders to make informed people decisions through accessible, accurate, and insightful dashboards and reports.
- Champion the digital employee experience, identifying opportunities to streamline processes, reduce administrative burden, and create user-friendly experiences across the employee lifecycle.
- Serve as a change leader for key cross-functional initiatives, ensuring timely communication, stakeholder engagement, and user adoption throughout system changes or upgrades.
- Collaborate closely with peers in Total Rewards, Talent, Learning & Development, and DEIB to integrate technology into broader People strategies and processes in a way that amplifies impact and equity.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience working with HRIS or People technology systems
- 2+ years of experience leading people, projects, or cross-functional initiatives
- Strong background in system administration, vendor management, or business analysis
- Proven ability to coach, develop, and empower others
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience implementing or optimizing HR technologies (e.g., Learning, Performance, Compensation, Talent Management platforms)
- Expertise with UKG Pro or similar HRIS platforms
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum practices
- Demonstrated ability to drive change and manage competing priorities
- Experience supporting HR or People Operations in mid-to-large sized organizations
