Senior Product Designer

Stealth Startup

Full-time

Phoenix, AZ

Job description

The Opportunity

We're at an inflection point in product design. AI, evolving user behaviors, and global connectivity are transforming how we build digital experiences, and the work you choose now will determine whether you shape that future or adapt to it.

We're a well-funded Silicon Valley startup building a next-generation platform that transforms how millions of people meet, travel, and connect around the world. We're looking for exceptional designers whose ambitions match our scale, individuals ready to move beyond incremental improvements and craft experiences that shape the future of social travel.

If you're ready to take on work that truly matters and build something with lasting impact, we want you on our team.

Role Summary

As Senior Product Designer, you'll own the design direction for a core product area, shaping both the user experience and visual identity of our web and mobile platform. You'll work autonomously to lead complex initiatives, resolve ambiguity, and influence product vision while collaborating deeply with product managers, engineers, and design partners. This senior role requires you to mentor other designers, elevate design quality across the team, and define our long-term design culture, delivering scalable systems and visually striking interfaces that set the bar for what's possible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead experience design for your product area, producing scalable, high-quality design systems and flow-level solutions
  • Bring clarity to ambiguous problem spaces and guide cross-functional teams toward impactful, user-centered outcomes
  • Deliver inventive, visually striking interfaces grounded in strong UX rationale and design principles
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence product direction, roadmap priorities, and execution strategy
  • Partner with external design teams to unify and elevate product aesthetics and design consistency
  • Translate research insights, trends, and competitive analysis into compelling design narratives and strategic recommendations
  • Mentor designers on the team and elevate the overall design practice through feedback, critique, and process improvement
  • Continuously refine design processes, patterns, and quality standards across the product

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience designing consumer mobile and web products with end-to-end ownership
  • Portfolio demonstrating distinctive, boundary-pushing work across visual design, systems thinking, and user flows
  • Strong ability to craft scalable UX systems and connect them to product strategy, not just individual screens
  • Deep understanding of UI fundamentals, design principles, and UX heuristics
  • Experience navigating ambiguity and leading large or complex design initiatives
  • Expertise with Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, prototyping tools, and modern design workflows
  • Experience incorporating user research into design exploration and decision-making
  • Ability to influence product direction through design-led thinking, storytelling, and strategic recommendations

Preferred Experience

  • Experience delivering top-tier consumer apps at scale
  • Background in travel, social, or community-focused consumer products
  • Experience working in startup or early-stage environments where you've owned product design areas with full autonomy
  • Motion design, animation, or advanced prototyping expertise
  • Experience building or significantly contributing to design systems
  • Previous experience mentoring or managing other designers
  • Comfortable working with technical constraints and collaborating closely with engineering on implementation
  • Experience presenting design work to executive leadership and influencing strategic decisions
  • Passion for travel and exploration

Portfolio Requirements

We need to see work that demonstrates your end-to-end design process and impact. Your portfolio should include:

  • Consumer mobile and web product designs with end-to-end flows, showing mastery of visual design and UX systems
  • Design systems, component libraries, or scalable patterns you've built and implemented
  • Your design process: problem definition, exploration, design decisions, and measurable outcomes
  • Examples of work where you navigated ambiguity or led complex design initiatives
  • Before/after comparisons or iterations that demonstrate your problem-solving approach

What We’re Looking For

  • Senior designers who love pushing boundaries, inventing new patterns, and creating visually stunning experiences
  • Strategic thinkers who use storytelling and design-led thinking to inspire alignment and shape product direction
  • Leaders who thrive in early-stage environments where work has immediate, meaningful impact
  • Team players who value in-person collaboration—we work together in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays to stay aligned, maintain momentum, and build a strong culture

What You’ll Gain

  • Competitive salary, equity, and comprehensive benefits
  • Career growth opportunities in a dynamic, high-impact role with clear paths to product leadership
  • Real influence in a rapidly scaling company where ownership drives recognition and reward
  • The chance to shape product experiences that impact millions of people's lives, drive meaningful change, and leave a lasting legacy
