About Us

We built an AI daemon that runs a 30-second optimization loop — scoring and adjusting recommendations for real people doing real missions in real cities. The loss function isn't invented. It's derived from Plato's Philebus — a 2,400-year-old mathematical theory of happiness that nobody had ever turned into working code. Until now.

General Temple is building AION, a real-time civilization engine. One founder wrote 2.3 million tokens of production code in 7 weeks, including the rule-based daemon. The architecture works. The loop runs. Now we need the AI lead who evolves it from rules into something that genuinely learns what makes people thrive.

We're a Delaware C-corp raising $3M. Our beachhead is 2.2 million people with zero competition. If you've ever wanted to build an AI system where the objective function is human happiness — not engagement, not clicks, not ad revenue — this is the only place on earth doing it.

The Role

You take the daemon from rule-based to learning. Today it runs on handcrafted heuristics — pain detection, virtue scoring, mission recommendation. Tomorrow it learns from every interaction, every completed mission, every squad that works. You own the entire AI/ML stack: recommendation engine, conversational coaching, squad composition, and the Philebus scoring framework that makes it all cohere.

What You'll Do

- Evolve the AI daemon from heuristics to a learning system that improves with every user interaction

- Build the recommendation engine: right mission, right squad, right time, right place — personalized to each user's virtue profile

- Implement Plato's happiness framework as a real optimization target — pleasure, knowledge, proportion, beauty, truth as measurable dimensions

- Design squad composition algorithms: match people for complementary strengths, not just availability

- Build conversational AI coaching: the daemon talks to users, understands context, provides personalized guidance

- Instrument the feedback loop: mission outcomes, pleasure ratings, retention — everything feeds back into the model

- Work with the founder and systems engineer directly. No research silos. Everything ships.

Requirements

- 5+ years ML/AI engineering, including 2+ years building recommendation or personalization systems

- Production ML: you've deployed models that serve real users, not just notebooks

- NLP/conversational AI: chatbots, coaching systems, or dialogue management

- Multi-objective optimization: our score function balances five dimensions simultaneously

- Python proficiency, with experience integrating ML services into Node.js/TypeScript backends

- Based in or willing to relocate to Kansas City, KS

Nice to Have

- Real-time systems, streaming data, or online learning experience

- Reinforcement learning or multi-armed bandit approaches

- Interest in philosophy, psychology, or well-being science

- Graph-based data experience (our ontology is a directed graph of Platonic concepts)

- You've built something that genuinely helped people make better decisions — not just better purchases

What We Offer

Competitive salary ($140K-$180K) plus highly competitive founding equity — you're joining before employee #5. We're raising $3M to build the team and launch. Salary begins at close of round.

This is a founding role. We're looking for people who are financially positioned to join early — ideally with at least a year of runway — because we're building something that requires conviction, not just a paycheck.

Based in Kansas City, KS — relocation welcome and encouraged.
