FV.ai Lab is a nonprofit charitable organization focused on developing advanced, AI-powered technologies to help and support individuals who are blind or vision impaired to navigate the world more independently.
In this effort, we are leveraging advanced production and pre-production solutions from commercial technology providers, including Meta, to develop solutions of high utility to the vision impaired.
Position Summary
FV.ai Lab is seeking a Data Scientist to design, deploy, and refine machine learning models that drive our assistive technologies. This role blends hands-on development with real-world implementation, focusing on turning research and data into practical, impactful solutions. You'll help bring deep learning systems into the next generation of assistive products, working closely with engineers and subject matter experts to create tools that improve the daily lives of people with vision impairments.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine learning models for facial recognition, obstacle detection, and related tasks
- Analyze and preprocess data to support model training and evaluation
- Work with engineering teams to integrate models into production software
- Develop data pipelines and tools for data collection, cleaning, and labeling
- Monitor model performance and implement improvements based on feedback and testing
- Ensure compliance with privacy, security, and ethical standards in AI
- Stay current with advances in AI, computer vision, and accessibility technology
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in applied data science, machine learning, or AI model development
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, or related field
- Experience in machine learning, statistical modeling, and data analysis
- Proficiency in Python and data science libraries (Pandas, TensorFlow, PyTorch)
- Familiarity with computer vision techniques and frameworks
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with accessibility technologies or assistive devices
- Knowledge of AR/VR or wearable technology ecosystems
- Background in edge computing or real-time AI applications
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP, Starlink)
Location: Palo Alto, CA working from the office Monday - Friday
Reports To: Vice President of Technology & Innovation
Compensation: Base salary of $160,000 to $170,000, commensurate with experience. Total compensation includes a competitive salary plus bonus and benefits.
Pay: $160,000.00 - $170,000.00 per year
