Senior Backend Software Engineer

Location: Remote
Type: 6–12 Month Contract
Compensation: $60-$70/hr

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design, build, and scale highly reliable services across a modern marketing and tax tooling platform. This role focuses on backend systems that support millions of daily interactions and requires strong ownership from architecture through production support.

You will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, and cross-functional engineering teams to deliver scalable, high-performance solutions for both customer-facing and internal platforms.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement scalable backend services and features
• Lead technical solutions from concept through deployment
• Optimize system performance, scalability, and reliability
• Integrate with third-party APIs and external services
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Monitor production systems and troubleshoot complex issues
• Participate in CI/CD processes and deployment automation
• Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices
• Ensure operational excellence and platform stability

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• 2+ years of experience with one or more of the following:

Java, Scala, Flow, GraphQL, Python, SQL, Shell

• Strong experience with relational databases and SQL
• Experience building and supporting distributed systems
• Familiarity with Docker and GitHub-based CI/CD pipelines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Experience

• Experience with GCP or other cloud platforms
• Experience building APIs and working with GraphQL
• Exposure to high-scale systems handling large transaction volumes
• Experience mentoring or guiding junior engineers

Job Type: Contract

Pay: $60.00 - $70.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
