Technology Careers at Obsidian IT
Technology Alignment Manager (TAM)
Location: Chico, CA & Client Sites
Employment Type: Full‑Time
Our Values: Our People Come First
Obsidian IT is a local, family‑oriented IT company founded in 2000 with a vision of putting people first. We provide consulting, technical projects, cloud computing, and telecom solutions while building long‑term relationships with both our clients and our employees.
We believe great IT outcomes start with great people. That belief shapes how we hire, train, and support our team—and it’s what sets Obsidian IT apart. We are a trusted partner for simple, scalable, and innovative IT solutions.
About the Technology Alignment Manager (TAM) Role
The Technology Alignment Manager (TAM) is a highly technical, detail‑oriented role at the center of our Technology Success practice. TAMs work proactively with clients to assess, document, and align technology environments to best‑practice standards through scheduled onsite visits.
This role requires a strong respect for accuracy, consistency, and documentation, as the information captured by the TAM is leveraged across the organization by:
- vCIO
- CTO
- Service Team
- Professional Services (ProServ)
- Design Desk
- Client Success Team
- Accounting
Clear, reliable documentation enables every team to better serve our clients—and the TAM plays a critical role in making that possible.
What a TAM Does
- Perform scheduled, full‑day onsite technology alignment visits
- Assess client environments against defined technical standards
- Identify misalignment, risk, and improvement opportunities
- Create and maintain clear, accurate, and detailed documentation
- Ensure collected information can be used by multiple internal teams
- Build trusted technical relationships with clients and end users
- Focus primarily on proactive alignment work, not reactive support
This is not a service desk or project deployment role. TAMs analyze, document, and align—so the rest of the organization can execute effectively.
Experience Level
This role is best suited for a mid‑level IT professional who is ready to move from primarily reactive work into a structured, proactive, and client‑focused role.
- 2–5+ years of professional IT experience preferred
- Experience in managed services or a proactive IT support environment is a plus
- Broad technical exposure is more important than deep specialization
- Candidates should be comfortable reviewing complete IT environments—not just resolving individual issues
Candidates with the right mindset, strong attention to detail, and respect for documentation will be successful, even if they are still growing in certain technical areas.
Training & Onboarding
We invest heavily in preparing our TAMs for long‑term success.
New TAMs participate in a structured two‑month training program, which includes:
- Training on our security tools, RMM, PSA, and alignment software
- Four weeks of Service Desk work to:
- Learn our internal processes
- Understand our clients and environments
- Build familiarity with how work flows through the organization
- Direct mentorship with one of the best TAMs in the business
- Shadowing real‑time client onsite reviews
- Hands‑on guidance through every step of the role
- Practical, real‑world preparation before managing accounts independently
Our goal is to ensure every TAM feels confident, capable, and fully supported.
