Job Summary
Alberta is an unincorporated community 8 miles south of L’Anse and is the site of the Ford Center. Alberta is managed by MTU’s College of Forest Resources and Environmental Science. This position will include a range of duties in the fully equipped commercial kitchen. Our goal is providing all users of the Ford Center with an enjoyable experience enhanced by delicious meals and a clean and safe environment.

The cook’s assistant position involves all aspects of meal preparation and clean up. Working as a team member under the guidance of experienced staff, the assistant will play a vital role in helping to run the kitchen as it serves both students and guests three meals a day. Hours are Monday through Friday with occasional weekends. Food service at the Ford Center is managed directly by the College and is not affiliated with Dining Services at MTU.

Responsibilities

• Assist in meal preparation by chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients as needed
• Support cooking staff by preparing food items according to recipes and specifications
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen area, including washing dishes and sanitizing surfaces
• Ensure proper food handling techniques are followed to maintain food safety standards
• Help with inventory management by restocking supplies and reporting shortages
• Participate in catering events as required, assisting with setup and service
• Collaborate with team members to ensure timely service during busy periods

Skills

• Familiarity with food service operations and restaurant experience is preferred
• Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 25 – 35 per week
