Network Architect – 1 Year Contract

Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
Job Summary:
Our client is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Network Architect for a 1-year contract position in Tallahassee, FL. The successful candidate will provide expert-level consulting services across a broad range of networking and infrastructure domains. This role requires a deep understanding of network design, security, and implementation, coupled with significant experience in public-sector IT environments. The Network Architect will be responsible for providing strategic guidance, technical expertise, and hands-on support for the client's LAN/WLAN/WAN infrastructure, network security posture, server IP configurations, and related technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert consultation and guidance on the design, implementation, maintenance, and support of complex LAN/WLAN/WAN environments.
- Design, implement, and maintain resilient and secure Storage Area Networks (SANs).
- Develop and implement comprehensive network security strategies, including the configuration and management of Access Control Lists (ACLs), Firewall policies (Palo Alto NGFW), Proxy policies, and Mail Gateway management (Cisco Ironports).
- Provide expertise in telecommunications technologies, including POTS, PRI, and SIP Trunks.
- Architect and implement cloud networking solutions and hybrid connectivity models.
- Plan, deploy, and support Cisco Collaboration suite components, including UCM, UCCX, and Unity Connection.
- Design and implement network resiliency solutions encompassing Disaster Recovery and High Availability architectures.
- Collaborate with application development teams to understand application requirements and provide network design considerations.
- Possess familiarity with application design principles and basic scripting concepts.
- Document network designs, configurations, and procedures clearly and comprehensively.
- Troubleshoot complex network and infrastructure issues effectively and efficiently under pressure.
- Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams, including IT staff, application developers, and other stakeholders.
- Proactively mentor junior team members through knowledge sharing and skill development.
- Be available to work a flexible schedule, including potential off-hours and holidays, to support critical project goals and system maintenance windows.
Required Experience, Skills, and Education:
- Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on working experience within Public-sector IT (Local, State, or Federal Government) environments. This experience must demonstrate a strong understanding of the unique requirements and challenges of government IT infrastructure.
- Minimum of five (5) years of demonstrable working experience in the following critical disciplines:
- LAN/WLAN/WAN Design, Implementation, and Support: Proven ability to architect, deploy, and maintain robust and scalable wired and wireless network infrastructures.
- Content Switches (Kemp, F5): In-depth knowledge and practical experience in the configuration, management, and troubleshooting of Kemp or F5 load balancers.
- Storage Area Networks (SANs): Expertise in the design, implementation, and maintenance of SAN environments, including zoning, LUN management, and performance optimization.
- Network Security: Comprehensive understanding of network security principles and hands-on experience configuring and managing ACLs, Firewall policies on Palo Alto Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFW), Proxy policies, and Mail Gateway management using Cisco Ironports.
- Telecommunications: Practical experience with POTS, PRI, and SIP Trunk technologies, including implementation and troubleshooting.
- Cloud Networking and Hybrid Connectivity: Experience designing and implementing secure and efficient connectivity between on-premises infrastructure and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Proven working experience in the implementation and support of:
- Cisco Collaboration Stack (UCM, UCCX, Unity Connection): Hands-on experience deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting Cisco Unified Communications Manager (UCM), Unified Contact Center Express (UCCX), and Unity Connection.
- Network Resiliency Design (Disaster Recovery, High Availability): Demonstrated ability to architect and implement network solutions that ensure business continuity through effective disaster recovery and high availability strategies.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex network issues under pressure.
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse technical and non-technical teams.
- Demonstrated willingness and ability to mentor and share knowledge with team members.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
- Strong documentation skills with attention to detail.
Preferred Skills:
- Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNP/CCIE, Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer (PCNSE)).
- Experience with network monitoring and management tools.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for network automation.
Work Environment: This position requires the ability to work onsite in Tallahassee, FL during standard business hours. However, the candidate must also be flexible and willing to work outside of standard hours, including evenings, weekends, and potentially holidays, as required to support critical system maintenance, upgrades, and incident resolution.
