Highrise Consulting, Inc. (www.highriseconsulting.com) is seeking a full-time Senior Linux Systems Administrator to work remotely from the United States supporting NIH (National Institutes of Health) client in Bethesda, MD.
- Provide Linux and AWS cloud engineering solutions in a complex application environment, designing automation and productivity tools to support multiple lower environments and the production environment and maintain 24/7 availability of mission-critical systems
- Work with developers to test, troubleshoot and provide technical assistance with Tomcat based applications
- Work with the developers and systems engineering teams on troubleshooting and managing Java applications running in EKS clusters and on EKS cluster administration and optimization
- Support the agency’s AWS hosting environment, including managing ownership of AMI creation and lifecycle management, EC2 testing and rollout, system hardening, and configuration management
- Follow proactive monitoring/maintenance policies and procedures, design and maintain backup and redundancy systems
- Participate in the monthly on-call rotation to support the Production environment
- Provide incident response / troubleshooting for Linux servers running in AWS environment
- Develop processes and procedures for ongoing management of the Linux server environments, including automated OS patching, automated system updates, automated installation of third-party COTS products, disaster recovery, user account management
- 8+ years of experience administering RedHat Enterprise Linux 7/8/9 and/or Amazon Linux 2/2023 in an enterprise environment
- 3+ years of AWS infrastructure management, and excellent understanding of AWS architecture and best practices
- 3+ years of experience with automation using Ansible, Puppet, AWS Systems Manager, CloudFormation or similar tools
- Strong scripting skills in Shell and Python
- Must have excellent scripting and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills with the ability to effectively troubleshoot, resolve, or escalate problems
- Must be able to pass a background investigation and qualify for a Public Trust clearance
