Job description
A confidential public-sector client in the Sacramento area is seeking an experienced IT Manager to lead technology operations supporting a 24/7 environment. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on operational oversight and is ideal for an IT leader who values people-first leadership, operational excellence, and the delivery of secure, highly available, and resilient technology services.
The position is hybrid , working a few days per week in the Sacramento office, and offers an outstanding benefits package including a company car with employer paid gas card , excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage for the entire family (majority employer-paid) , and employer-paid CalPERS pension benefits .
What You’ll Do
Lead and oversee enterprise IT operations in a 24/7 mission-critical environment
Supervise system operations to meet milestones, deliverables, and performance standards
Lead IT teams across infrastructure, networking, desktop support, telephony, security, servers, and applications
Oversee system design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and modernization initiatives
Lead new project analysis and implementation, ensuring smooth transition to operations with proper documentation
Develop and implement workflow and process improvements, including documentation, monitoring, and reporting
Investigate and resolve system issues, driving continuous improvement and system reliability
Manage IT budgets, vendors, contracts, and service providers
Provide regular updates and status reports to executive leadership
Balance long-term technology planning with day-to-day operational leadership
8–10+ years of progressively responsible experience supporting enterprise networks and systems
5–6+ years of IT leadership or management experience
Strong knowledge of IT governance, budgeting, project management, and cybersecurity
Hands-on experience with Windows environments, Active Directory, and enterprise networking
Strong understanding of LAN/WAN, TCP/IP, and network infrastructure
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex systems and lead teams through issue resolution
Experience managing vendors, contracts, and competing priorities
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
Experience in public-sector, public-safety, or other high-availability environments strongly preferred
Relevant certifications (Microsoft, Azure, systems, or cloud) are a plus
