MISSION

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience, joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

POSITION SUMMARY

The IT Director plays a vital role in aligning technology initiatives with the organization’s mission and strategic objectives. This leadership position manages the IT costs and drives the implementation of both innovative and ongoing technology strategies across the organization. The IT Director ensures the efficiency, security, and reliability of the organization’s IT infrastructure through effective use of digital tools, robust cybersecurity practices, and comprehensive staff development- supporting remote, hybrid and on-site teams.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Planning

· Develop and execute IT strategies that align with SOMT’s Strategic Plan.

Budget Management

· Work with the VP Finance on budgeting, allocating resources, and ensuring cost-effectiveness for the organization.

IT Systems & Support

  • Manage aspects of the organization’s IT infrastructure including:
  • The hardware inventory and refresh cycle
  • Software and programs
  • Cloud platforms

· Monitor system performance and proactively implement improvements or upgrades.

  • Serve as the primary administrator for Microsoft 365.
  • Provide remote and onsite IT support for employees and troubleshoot technical issues across devices and platforms.

Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Develop, implement, and maintain the organization's cybersecurity policies to protect data and systems from cyber threats while complying with industry regulations.
  • Assist with annual cyber security audit for Special Olympics Montana and implement recommended changes.
  • Lead staff in cyber security training through our existing security platform.
  • Maintain and monitor existing hardware and software firewalls and security software infrastructure.
  • Ensure data privacy and protection protocols are up to date and followed across the organization for the following areas:
  • Athlete, volunteer, and donor data (GMS, Blackbaud NXT and Center of Excellence)
  • Service subscriptions for fundraising, accounting, and communications (One Cause, MIP, Constant Contact and more)
  • Digital platforms (social media, website and more)
  • Provide ongoing monitoring of cyber threats to SOMT’s digital ecosystem.
  • Monitor and manage password protection program for the organization. (Dashlane)

Staff Training & Support

  • Work closely with department leaders to assess growth and maintenance needs.
  • Lead the work of the current staff tech committee and outside resources.
  • Develop and deliver ongoing professional development for staff on digital platforms, cybersecurity awareness, and best practices.
  • Provide technology onboarding for new employees with start-up equipment, training, and follow-up support. Enroll new employees in necessary software programs.
  • Identify and train staff on applicable AI strategies and usage.

Digital Platform Coordination

  • Manage and maintain all digital platforms and subscriptions used by the organization.
  • Assess, update, and organize data within all digital platforms to ensure accuracy and efficiency while decreasing duplication of efforts and assets.
  • Lead technology applications as needed by departments for state events. (State Games, LETR Conference, and fundraising)

Technology Research and Implementation

  • Stay up to date on new technologies and be able to recommend, lead, and execute new IT initiatives.
  • Lead IT projects from planning and execution to completion.

Media & Website Management

  • Work in coordination with the MarComm staff and departments to update the website content regularly, ensuring all materials are accurate, current, and aligned with the organization’s branding.

Disaster Recovery

  • Plan and execute disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuity in the event of a system failure.

Accountability for risk management

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field.
  • Several years of proven experience as an IT Manager or similar role, ideally in a nonprofit or remote work environment.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, including hardware, software, networking, and security.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, and associated admin tools.
  • Solid understanding of cybersecurity principles and tools.
  • Familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WordPress) and data cleaning techniques.
  • Effective problem-solver with the ability to anticipate and solve problems.
  • Reliability in matters requiring confidentiality.
  • Experience providing technology training and support to a non-technical user base.
  • Engaging personality with the ability to develop relationships and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to plan, execute, and manage IT projects.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, visionary environment that is committed to excellence.
  • Travel as needed to fulfill job responsibilities for state events.
  • Available to work weekend events and attend evening meetings as needed.
  • Some outdoor work is required that may include inclement weather for state events.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty pounds.
  • Valid driver’s license and insurability on corporate insurance.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $60,000.00 per year
