Position Summary:
MD Landscaping is seeking an experienced Excavation Project Manager. The Excavation Project Manager oversees all excavation activities for residential and commercial construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on time, and within budget. The ideal candidate will have strong excavation expertise, leadership capabilities, and excellent project coordination skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with subcontractors, field crews, clients, and internal teams.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Management
- Manage excavation operations for construction projects from pre-construction through final completion.
- Review project plans, specifications, and blueprints to determine scope, materials, and equipment needs.
- Develop project schedules, work plans, manpower requirements, and resource allocations.
- Coordinate with designers, engineers, architects, project managers, and external partners to ensure alignment on project goals.
Field Leadership & Execution
- Direct excavation crews and equipment operators, ensuring work is executed accurately and safely.
- Oversee grading, trenching, soil moving, utility installation prep, drainage systems, and site preparation activities.
- Perform site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and compliance with plans and codes.
- Resolve on-site issues, conflicts, or technical challenges in real time.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company safety standards and regulatory requirements (OSHA, state/local regulations).
- Conduct site safety meetings and ensure all workers follow proper excavation and trenching protocols.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective measures immediately.
Budgeting & Cost Control
- Track project costs, labor hours, and equipment usage to maintain budget integrity.
- Review and approve invoices, change orders, and subcontractor billing.
- Provide cost-saving recommendations without compromising quality.
Communication & Coordination
- Serve as the primary point of contact for excavation-related project details.
- Communicate project updates, schedules, and issues to clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
- Coordinate deliveries, inspections, and sequencing with other trades.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in excavation, site work, or heavy civil construction (excavation experience preferred).
- 2–3 years of project management or crew leadership experience.
- Strong knowledge of excavation equipment, grading techniques, and soil behavior.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, grading plans, and utility layouts.
- Familiarity with OSHA trenching/excavation standards.
- Proficiency with project management software, GPS equipment, and digital plan tools.
- Valid driver’s license; CDL is a plus.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
