The North Carolina Office of the State Auditor (OSA) is seeking a Data Scientist. This position will play a critical role in leveraging data science methodologies to support audit functions and investigations, involving the development of predicting models, analyzing large datasets, and uncovering actionable insights to improve government accountability.

OSA is the state’s Fiscal Watchdog. We hold state government and entities that receive public money accountable, working on behalf of North Carolinians to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages
  • Experience with machine learning libraires such as TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, or PyTorch
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools like Tabeleau, PowerBI, or Matplotlib

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

A bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field or a related technical degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in business application consulting or development

OR

An associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in application consulting or development

OR

A high school or general educational development (GED) diploma and six years of experience in business application consulting or development

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $78,467.00 - $117,701.00 per year
